چکیده مقاله:

The protective effect of tomato extract and lycopene on acute doxorubicin-induced myocardial toxicity was evaluated in mice. Doxorubicin toxicity, induced by a single intraperitoneal injection (15 mg/kg), was revealed by elevated serum CPKMB and histopathological observations. Tomato extract (1.2 and 2.4 g/kg, i.p.) and lycopene (1.7 and 3.5 mg/kg, i.p.), prevented the rise in serum CPKMB and ameliorated cardiac cell injury. These results suggest that tomato extract and lycopene inhibit doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity and might serve as a combination chemotherapeutic agent with doxorubicin to limit its cardiotoxic effects.

In Vivo Protective Effects of Diosgenin against Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiotoxicity

Doxorubicin (DOX) induces oxidative stress leading to cardiotoxicity. Diosgenin, a steroidal saponin of Dioscorea opposita, has been reported to have antioxidant activity. Our study was aimed to find out the protective effect of diosgenin against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity in mice. DOX treatment led to a significant decrease in the ratio of heart weight to body weight, and increases in the bloo...

Protective effects of omega-3, atorvastatin, vitamin E and vitamin C against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in rats: a comparison study

Introduction: The stress-oxidative is involved in doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiotoxicity. Due to the potential and previous reported for antioxidant properties of atorvastatin, omega-3, vitamin E and vitamin C, their efficacy to prevention of DOX-induced cardiotoxicity was investigated in this study. Methods: Fifty-six male rats were divided into 8 groups which received omega-3, atorvastati...

Protective effect of Gingko biloba extract against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in mice.

Doxorubicin (DXR) causes dose dependent cardiotoxicity in experimental animals and in humans. In chronic doxorubicin cardiotoxicity model mice, the role of G. biloba extract (Gbe) which has an antioxidant property, was investigated. Doxorubicin treated animals showed higher mortality (68%), increased ascites, marked bradycardia, prolongation of ST and QT intervals and widening of QRS complex. M...

The protective effects of silymarin against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity and hepatotoxicity in rats.

Silymarin is a complex of five major compounds, and silibinin is the most biologically active component of the complex. The aim of this study was to investigate, evaluate and confirm the potential cardioprotective and hepatoprotective effects of administration of silymarin, rich in silibinin, at a dose of 60 mg/kg orally for a time-span of 12 days on doxorubicin induced toxicity in male Wistar ...
